Most desirable pink diamond engagement ring designs

Whilst we are adamant that no two engagement rings are ever created the same, we have come to learn that certain designs simply just work. So whilst we will always seek out ways of adjusting, tweaking and personalising any given piece the most popular designs provide a foundation upon which many will seek to build.

Colour palette

A delicate and refined shade of pink

Unlike blue or yellow coloured diamonds, pink diamonds’ colour does not come from trace elements mixed into them, but from deformation in their crystal and molecular structure, causing the light to refract in a pink hue. In fact, scientists are still trying to uncover more about this mysterious gemstone’s colour. What does this mean? That pink diamonds develop their colour by a very unique and even more intense kind of pressure than other diamonds - they truly are one-of-a-kind. This special characteristic is what makes pink diamonds so rare, expensive and cherished.

The GIA (Gemological Institute of America) has a scale system to describe the different shades of pink diamonds, ranging from 'Faint' at one end to 'Fancy dark' at the other. 'Fancy pink' coloured diamonds are graded in the same way as their fancy coloured cousins: Faint, Very light, Light, Fancy light, Fancy intense, Fancy deep and Fancy vivid. The more saturated the colour of the diamond, the higher the price.

Geographical location

The origins of pink diamonds

Because of how it’s formed, the colour of a pink diamond is also influenced by its geological origins. They are found in various parts of the world, from Brazil to South Africa, but many of the most exquisite examples come from the now-closed Argyle Mine in Australia - no more pink diamonds will ever be mined from there. This historical significance adds a layer of prestige to Argyle-origin diamonds, making them particularly coveted.

Though the mine ceased production in 2020, its diamonds are still sought after for their unique provenance and rich colour intensity. Owning an Argyle pink diamond engagement ring is owning a piece of history, a gem that reflects both Earth's natural wonders and the enduring strength of your love.

Pink alternatives

Alternatives to pink diamonds for engagement rings

Owing to its rarity and price, pink diamonds are most often used in detailing or to add specific meaning to a ring. Usually, the centre stone would be a white diamond, flanked or augmented by flashes of colour.

This can add a wonderfully unique aspect to an engagement ring, as the position and style of the pink gemstones can speak a thousand words. Of course, any gemstone used in the ring is always up to you - a sophisticated padparadscha sapphire, pink sapphire or even a light ruby are all elegant choices.
