Ruby engagement rings

Intensely coloured with calming hues

Ranging from rich royal red colours to vibrant pink hues, rubies are synonymous with passion and romance. A bold yet calming colour which can be perfectly complimented by the warm hues of yellow gold and or accentuated by colourless natural white diamonds.

Known as the king of gemstones, it is a lesser known fact that rubies are actually the same chemical compound as a sapphire (Corundum), with both gem types offering a level of hardness, preciousness and durability making them suitable for use in an engagement ring.

Saturation of colour

Wonderfully bright and lively

The most celebrated colour of ruby is termed "pigeon blood" which is a purplish red, though rubies can range from light pinkish red to deep brownish-red depending on the concentration of Chromium and Iron.

Good saturation of colour and good clarity are important for rubies used in engagement rings, these along with an excellent cut on the shape of the stone will create a wonderfully bright and lively gemstone.

Ruby gemstones from around the world

Today, rubies are found in Sri Lanka, Mozambique, Thailand, Cambodia, Kenya, Tanzania and Vietnam. Since 600 AD, Burma (now Myanmar) has been an important source of rubies, particularly from the Mogok reigon.

It is said that Burmese warriors thought that rubies protected them during battle. Early cultures believed rubies held the power of life. Ruby engagement rings are truly global in their reach and culture, and are a great choice for your personal expression of both commitment and passion.
