How to care for your jewellery?
Each of our products is made by some of the most skilled designers, jewellers and technicians in the industry. We offer a few pieces of advice to ensure that your jewellery’s quality is preserved eternally.
We recommend removing jewellery:
- When you participate in activities with abrasive contacts on your hands
- When you shower or bathe and particularly when on the beach, in the sea and in chlorinated water
- If you have a job in which the ring could be compromised or scratched easily
- For activities which could result in your rings being knocked and damaged
- Avoid spraying perfume or applying creams directly onto your jewellery
- Keep away from extreme temperatures, humidity and sunlight, and avoid wearing your jewellery when using bleach.
Pearls
Natural pearls are fragile, do not spray any perfumes or lotions directly onto pearls and do not submerge in water. Pearls will be immediately damaged by the alcohol in perfume and oil in lotions. After wearing, clean natural pearls with a soft, dry cloth and store in breathable fabric pouches or tissue.
Diamonds & Gemstones
Diamonds are the hardest material in the world as per the Mohs Hardness Scale, however this does not make them indestructible. They can be chipped and scratched if knocked or stored incorrectly.
For all of our diamonds and gemstones, we suggest warm water with a drop of washing up liquid and a soft toothbrush. Harsh chemicals and cleaners should be avoided at all times. We advise cleaning your precious stones with a clean, soft, damp cloth after wearing.
Very porous stones such as emeralds, turquoise, and opals should be cleaned using an untreated, dry, soft cloth only. Do not submerge or opals in water under any circumstances. Do not use tissue paper or paper towels to clean gemstones as they can cause scratching.
Storing jewellery
To protect your jewellery when not worn, pieces should be individually placed in the Blackacre leather-lined box to stop them being scratched. Ideally, store your jewellery in a dark, cool and dry place, and keep pieces apart. Always wipe your jewellery to remove any grease or residue before storing.
Metals
We only use the most precious metals, which therefore have a lower propensity to tarnish when compared to other metals, such as Sterling Silver. However, over time all metals, when exposed to the elements, will experience some degree of tarnishing. This can easily be dealt with by using a soft, lint-free cloth to keep your jewellery looking shiny and lustrous.
Servicing
We happily provide a jewellery servicing service to all existing clients. We recommend that a service is performed annually to re-polish the ring, remove any grease, dirt or blemishes impacting the diamond's brilliance, and maintain the quality of the settings. We are able to offer the full service for £100 (inc VAT). Note that some insurers will stipulate an annual service is required as part of the terms of cover.
